01What a Flex task looks like
Flex is built for people who already have a job, a degree or a family to run. A task is small enough to fit around that. Every task states the same four things before you apply: hours a day, the window, the rate and the time-zone overlap.
7 task types are on offer: Test cycles & exploratory, Automation scripts, Localization QA, AI evaluation, Accessibility audits, Mobile & game playtests and Security tests. Each has its own window, rate band and example.
02Hours times rate
Hours a day times days a week times rate. A task at 3 hours a day is 15 hours in a five-day week; at 4 hours a day it is 20. Two working weeks are 30 to 40 hours.
| Task type | Typical window | Rate per hour | One week (15-20 h) | Two weeks (30-40 h) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Test cycles & exploratory | 1-3 weeks | $22-45 | $330-$900 | $660-$1,800 |
| Automation scripts | 2-6 weeks | $40-80 | $600-$1,600 | $1,200-$3,200 |
| Localization QA | 1-2 weeks | $18-36 | $270-$720 | $540-$1,440 |
| AI evaluation | 2-8 weeks | $25-70 | $375-$1,400 | $750-$2,800 |
| Accessibility audits | 1-3 weeks | $35-75 | $525-$1,500 | $1,050-$3,000 |
| Mobile & game playtests | 1-2 weeks | $15-32 | $225-$640 | $450-$1,280 |
| Security tests | 1-3 weeks | $55-110 | $825-$2,200 | $1,650-$4,400 |
Gross income before your own income tax and social contributions. You are a contractor and report income yourself. Each live task shows its own rate, which can sit anywhere inside its band.
A band is a range for a task type, not a promise for every task. The highest bands are security tests, automation scripts and accessibility audits; the lowest are mobile & game playtests and localization qa.
03What is on the board now
Our live tasks board has 16 open tasks as of 2026-10-20. This is a snapshot of PassRidge's own task board, not of the open market.
| Measure | Value |
|---|---|
| Tasks at 3 hours a day / 4 hours a day | 9 / 7 |
| Paid per hour / paid per project | 11 / 5 |
| Median hourly midpoint (hourly tasks) | $35 |
| Median implied hourly rate (project tasks) | $53 |
| Tasks under NDA | 10 of 16 |
Project-priced tasks state the estimated hours, so you can compare them with hourly ones. A project that pays $1,450 for 48 hours is $30 an hour.
04Rules that apply to every task
The rules are short and they are the same for every task.
- Hours: 3 or 4 a day per task, up to 2 tasks at once, 20 hours a week in total.
- Timesheets: log hours by day and submit by Monday 12:00 UTC. Approved hours are paid on Friday.
- Late approvals: if the client has not approved within 5 working days, PassRidge pays the undisputed hours anyway.
- Vetting: a 30-45 minute skills test for your task type, identity and right-to-work checks, a conflict check and a short paid trial task.
- Cost to you: nothing. PassRidge is paid by the client and never charges a candidate.

05Who it fits
Flex works well for:
- Employed QA engineers who want to add automation, accessibility or security experience on tasks outside their main job. Read your contract first; the moonlighting checklist shows what to check.
- Freelancers who want scoped tasks without chasing clients.
- Juniors with a portfolio for game playtests and AI evaluation, which accept strong juniors.
- Students aged 18 and over if university rules allow paid work.

06Method and limits
Rate bands come from PassRidge's published Flex rate card and the live tasks board as of 2026-10-20. Weekly and two-week totals are arithmetic on those bands, not guarantees of work or pay. Market statistics elsewhere in Insights use public postings; this article uses PassRidge's own task data.
The method for roles, tools and pay is documented on our salary methodology page. Spot an error? Write to [email protected].
