QA for fintech

In fintech, a rounding error, a double charge or a failed payout is an incident with a customer and a regulator attached. QA here means money-movement correctness, idempotency, reconciliation and security, tested on every release.

What we test

What we test in fintech.

The risks that matter most in this industry, and the checks we put in place for each. Engineers are matched on these, not only on tool names.

01

Money movement

Rounding, currency conversion, fees, limits, refunds and chargebacks, tested against known-good ledgers.

02

Idempotency and retries

A timed-out payment request retried by the client must not charge twice. Contract and failure-injection tests cover it.

03

Reconciliation

Automated checks that internal ledgers, processor reports and bank files agree, daily.

04

Strong customer authentication

3-D Secure and device-binding flows on every supported browser and handset.

Compliance considerations

What shapes fintech testing.

These standards describe obligations that usually apply to the product or the client. PassRidge does not hold them on your behalf and nothing here is legal advice. Your compliance owner sets the scope.

01

PCI DSS v4.0

Applies to systems that store, process or transmit cardholder data. Test environments must not hold real card numbers.

02

PSD2 and strong customer authentication

EU and UK rules for authenticating online payments. Test every SCA exemption path and fallback.

03

SOC 2

Customers' security reviews ask for evidence of testing and change control.

04

GDPR and UK GDPR

Personal data in test environments must be masked or synthetic.

Our engineers work inside your controls, on masked or synthetic data, and produce test evidence in the format your reviewers ask for. How security works in every engagement.

FAQ

QA for fintech: your questions.

What QA roles do fintechs hire most?

SDETs and QA automation engineers for payment flows, plus a security tester ahead of audits. Early-stage fintechs often start with one SDET and add a business test analyst when compliance work begins.

How do you test payments without real cards?

With processor sandboxes and the test card numbers they publish, plus recorded and simulated bank responses. PCI scope forbids live card data in test environments.

Do your testers sign NDAs and handle regulated data?

Yes. Every engineer signs a confidentiality undertaking and works on masked or synthetic data. Background checks are run where the client and local law require them.

Which engagement model do you recommend for fintech?

Usually dedicated qa team. Payments products change constantly and quality compounds with a team that knows the ledger. Dedicated QA team starts in about 21 days, mid-level rates begin at $34 an hour and the minimum term is 6 months. The five models are compared at /outsourcing/.
