What we test

What we test in telecom.

The risks that matter most in this industry, and the checks we put in place for each. Engineers are matched on these, not only on tool names.

01

Protocol and interoperability

Network functions tested against 3GPP and IETF specifications and against other vendors' equipment.

02

Billing and rating

Usage records, rating rules, discounts and invoices verified against expected charges.

03

OSS and BSS flows

Order-to-activate and trouble-to-resolve journeys across many back-office systems.

04

Resilience

Failover, long-duration soak and capacity tests at subscriber scale.

Typical roles

The roles telecom teams hire.

Each role links to the hiring page and to the role guide. Pay shown is the US median for mid-level, gross per year.

Tooling

The stack our telecom engineers work in.

Tools common in telecom QA. We staff against your stack, so this list is a starting point and not a limit.

Each tool page shows demand, pay and a learning path. Licences stay in your name.

Compliance considerations

What shapes telecom testing.

These standards describe obligations that usually apply to the product or the client. PassRidge does not hold them on your behalf and nothing here is legal advice. Your compliance owner sets the scope.

01

3GPP and ETSI specifications

Define the behaviour of mobile network functions and interfaces that conformance tests check.

02

TM Forum Open APIs

Standard interfaces for operations and billing systems, with conformance kits.

03

NIS2

EU security and resilience obligations for operators of essential and important services, which include telecoms.

04

STIR/SHAKEN

Caller-ID authentication framework required of US voice providers, tested across carrier interconnects.

Our engineers work inside your controls, on masked or synthetic data, and produce test evidence in the format your reviewers ask for. How security works in every engagement.

FAQ

QA for telecom: your questions.

Are telecom testers a separate profession?

Many are. Protocol and network-function testers are specialist SDETs and test engineers. We source from our network by stack and domain, and we say when the pool is thin.

Do you provide simulators and test tools?

Testers use the client's or the vendor's lab tools. We provide the engineers and the harness code.

Is load testing at subscriber scale possible remotely?

Yes, if the client gives access to the lab or a cloud environment sized for it.

Which engagement model do you recommend for telecom?

Usually qa staff augmentation. Programmes need specialist skills for a vendor's release train, with the client's lead in charge. QA staff augmentation starts in about 10 days, mid-level rates begin at $38 an hour and the minimum term is 3 months. The five models are compared at /outsourcing/.
