  1. juniorRequirementsHow do you review requirements for testability?

Model answer. Check that each requirement is unambiguous, measurable and atomic and does not contradict others. Flag vague words such as fast or user-friendly, missing error paths and hidden assumptions, and ask for acceptance criteria with concrete examples.

    Tools: Jira

  2. juniorTraceabilityWhat is a traceability matrix good for?

Model answer. It maps requirements to test cases and defects, which shows coverage gaps and which tests to re-run when a requirement changes. Keep it lightweight by linking issues and tests in the tracker instead of maintaining a spreadsheet.

    Tools: Xray, TestRail

  3. midTest designA loan is approved if income is at least 3 times the payment and credit score is at least 650, or if a guarantor exists. Build the decision table.

Model answer. Three conditions give 8 combinations. Guarantor equals yes approves regardless of the other two, which collapses four columns into one rule. Guarantor equals no approves only when income and score both pass. That leaves 5 rules and 5 cases, plus boundary cases at score 649 and 650 and income exactly 3 times the payment.

  4. midUATHow do you run user acceptance testing with business users who are not testers?

Model answer. Write scenarios from real business processes in business language, prepare the data, set entry criteria (system testing passed) and give users a single place to report. Hold short daily triage and separate defects from change requests.

  5. midBDDHow do you write a good Gherkin scenario?

Model answer. Keep it declarative and about one behaviour: Given a context, When a single action, Then an observable outcome. Avoid UI mechanics such as clicking a blue button, use Examples tables for variants, and write it so a business reader can confirm it.

    Tools: Cucumber / BDD

  6. midTriageDevelopment says a defect is working as designed, yet users hit it. What do you do?

Model answer. Compare the behaviour with the written requirement and acceptance criteria. If they are unclear, escalate to the product owner for a decision. Record the outcome: fix, change request or accepted behaviour.

    Tools: Jira

  7. seniorEnd to endHow do you test a process spanning several systems, such as order to cash?

Model answer. Define end-to-end scenarios following the data across systems, synchronise test data, check message timing and reconciliation totals, and cover negative paths such as partial shipment and refund. Use stubs only where a real system is unavailable and say so in the report.

    Tools: Postman

  8. seniorRiskUAT time is short. How do you prioritise scope?

Model answer. By business criticality and frequency: regulatory and revenue paths first, then new or changed functions and historically defect-prone areas. Get explicit sign-off on the residual risk of what is left out.

How to use this

Practise like an interview

  • Say your answer out loud before revealing the model answer.
  • Add a real example from your work. Interviewers remember stories, not definitions.
  • Mark what you can answer cleanly and repeat the rest tomorrow.
  • Notice the trade-offs in each answer; senior questions are scored on judgement.
