What we test

What we test in e-commerce.

The risks that matter most in this industry, and the checks we put in place for each. Engineers are matched on these, not only on tool names.

01

Checkout and payments

Cart, tax, shipping, discounts and every payment method, across guest and logged-in flows.

02

Search and catalogue

Relevance, filters, stock and pricing consistency between catalogue, search and cart.

03

Peak-season performance

Load models from last year's peak plus growth, run weeks before the sale, not during it.

04

Cross-browser and device

Real-device checks on the browsers and handsets that bring the most orders.

Tooling

The stack our e-commerce engineers work in.

Tools common in e-commerce QA. We staff against your stack, so this list is a starting point and not a limit.

Each tool page shows demand, pay and a learning path. Licences stay in your name.

Compliance considerations

What shapes e-commerce testing.

These standards describe obligations that usually apply to the product or the client. PassRidge does not hold them on your behalf and nothing here is legal advice. Your compliance owner sets the scope.

01

PCI DSS v4.0

Applies to payment pages and scripts. Third-party scripts on checkout are in scope for monitoring.

02

European Accessibility Act

From 28 June 2025 many consumer e-commerce services in the EU must meet accessibility requirements.

03

GDPR, UK GDPR and CCPA/CPRA

Consent, cookies and data-subject flows must work in every region you sell in.

04

PSD2 strong customer authentication

EU and UK card payments need SCA flows tested end to end.

Our engineers work inside your controls, on masked or synthetic data, and produce test evidence in the format your reviewers ask for. How security works in every engagement.

FAQ

QA for e-commerce: your questions.

When should we start peak-season testing?

Six to eight weeks before the peak. Load tests need time for tuning and a second run to confirm the fix.

Can you test during a replatform?

Yes. Replatforms are usually a project: parity testing of catalogue, pricing and checkout, a performance baseline and a rollback plan.

What stack do you use?

Whatever you run. Common choices in our listings are Playwright or Cypress for web, Appium for apps, and k6 or JMeter for load.

Which engagement model do you recommend for e-commerce?

Usually project-based testing. A peak-season release or replatform has a hard date and a fixed scope. Project-based testing starts in about 7 days, mid-level rates begin at $42 an hour and the minimum term is 2 weeks. The five models are compared at /outsourcing/.
